Net worth by age

The table is household net worth from the 2022 Survey of Consumer Finances, inflated to July 2026 dollars. It shows the 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentiles by age of the reference person. This extract has no mean, so Arc does not publish an average.

How to read the bands

Age is the age of the SCF reference person, not every adult in the home. Dollars are household totals: assets minus debts. The 50th percentile is the median. Half of households in the band are below it.

Averages of wealth are dominated by the top of the distribution. Because this public extract stores percentile points and not a mean, the average column is intentionally absent.

Inflation and limits

Survey dollars are from 2022 and scaled with CPI-U to July 2026. That is a price adjustment, not a new survey. It does not capture saving behavior after 2022. Home values, markets, and rates have moved. Treat the table as the best sourced baseline in this repo, not as this month’s Census.

Common questions

Why is there no average?

The ladders Arc ships are percentile points from the SCF public extract. A mean was not part of that extract. Publishing one would be an invention.
